M45 (Plejades)
M45, the Plejades or seven sisters are a quite young open cluster in a distance of approximately 400 lightyears. The cluster is just about 100
million years old. Young, bright and hot stars emit a bluish light, which is scattered by dust clouds lying between earth and the star cluster.
This makes the prominent blue streaks. Dust and molecular clouds around the hot stars, however, show a more greyish-brownish colour. Latest
research shows, that those dust clouds contain lots of organic compounds, which could form the basis of life.
