Messier 57, the ring nebula, is a planetary nebula in 2300lyrs distance. The central star - a white dwarf - has a surface temperature of about 70000K and a
visual magnitude of about 15m8. Taking into account a visual diameter of 120arcsecs gives us an absolute object diameter of 1.3lyrs.
The nebula is about 20000yrs old and expands with appx. 19km/sec.
The galaxy located next to M57 is IC1296, which is about 221Mlyrs deep in space. In the 100% crop below a few additional PGC background galaxies are
marked when moving the mouse above the image.
