Messier 16 is an emission nebula combined with an open cluster in the summer part of the milky way, located in the constellation serpens caput. Distance to the sun is appx. 7klyrs and apparent visual magnitude of the object is about 6m4. It is mainly an emissive H-II region, what is the reason for the reddish color tint of this broadband VIS-image. The dust structures in the center of the nebula are commonly known as pillars of creation. On their tops, very new stars are located. The real lenght of these dust structures is up to 9.5lyrs. This image is shown in colorimetric correct color. This means, that H Alpha in this image has an (R;G;B)-Color which is the best representation of a true H-Alpha emission line with 656nm to be shown on an sRGB monitor.
